Bringing IT!

That's right.....I am keeping a blog about my training!

Well while I haven't been posting daily updates about my training it does continue! I will admit that I had been a bit naughty for a few weeks there and hadn't been spending any time at all swimming. My excuse? I guess I have been going with my goggles. Up untill this past week I didn't have a decent pair. The ones I had served their purpose, but not without leaving fun rings around my eyes or leaking. So I coughed up the $17.00 and got the nicest ones Target had! Totally worth it, no leaking and no rings around my eyes when I take them off and the don't even hurt my ears! Long tangent short, it is worth it to spend a few extra bucks to take away any excuses!

My cycling is going ok, I think. It is kind of hard to determine where I am really at with it when I am only able to do it on a spinning bike at the health club. A small part of me wants to simply believe that I will be able to will power my way through any part of the Ironman that I am not fully trained for....I try not to listen to that part of my brain as I can gather that thinking that way will only lead to trouble and disappointment on the big day! So more spinning I will do! Plus in about another 30 days I will surely be able to get outside on my bike again! :)

The run training is going well. I completed yet another long run today. I hadn't realized until yesterday that I was staring down another 17.5 miles, I thought I had mile repeats today. I am happy to be at a point where I can find this out and not have to freak out about the distance because I am not ready for it. It is now simply a change of state of mind about the upcoming workout and finding a course to run. You would think that with my living in such a vast metro area I would have ample amounts of running routes to choose from for these long runs. I did find a route on the USAT site, but I still don't always trust my sense of direction so I bagged that idea and found away to cover the distance by running the trail from behind my apartments up to Lake Calhoun, around the lake and back. I did this 3 times adding an extra mile on the front end of the deal to ensure the distance. Not the most exciting route, but I didn't get lost which is always a bonus. I am still using Jeff Galloways run/walk method for my long runs and I believe that is something I will always do. My intervals today were 12 minutes of running then 1 minute of walking. On my 15.2 mile long run which I did on February 13, I went with a 10/1 interval. I used to always use a 8/1, but I am now thinking I will stick with the 12/1 as I am progressing as a runner and like the feeling of covering more distance between the times I take a walk break. Perhaps I will up the intervals to 15/1. I guess I will find out what I can do!

In addition to swimming, biking and running I have also been doing P90X again. I am not worrying about sticking to the calendar with it. If I have a Ironman training day that conflicts with doing a P90X workout, I will just do that workout the next day. I could just weight train at the gym, but I have found I am far more successful with weight training when I have an actual plan as is true with everything in life! "Bring IT" is a P90X saying if you will, but I have found it is a good motivator for life over all! So I am going to keep bringing it!
